Prof. Fürst possesses an admirable global reputation on landscape ecology achieved through her research orientation, supervision of PhD students, mentorship and overall direction of the global landscape ecology agenda.
She has been the president of the International Association of Landscape Ecology (IALE) from 2015 to 2019 and before that, the Treasurer of IALE. Through her positions on IALE Executive, she has been an advocate and a champion of building African scholarship in landscape ecology. She has extensive research experience in Africa covering a period of over 15 years. She has supervised numerous PhD students from Africa.
She has developed digital tools on assessing landscape metrics. These will be tested and validated during the summer school series. She will be responsible for coordinating with the Volkswagen Foundation on financial matters and technical reports. She will also facilitate institutional coordination on logistics between Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and Makerere University including financial transfers.
